School districts and charter schools are required by Utah law, 53A1a-704(10), to inform parents of students with IEPs enrolled in public schools, of the availability of a scholarship to attend a private school through the Carson Smith Scholarship Program”.

The 2011 legislature enacted a new law (Senate Bill 65) to enable a student to earn high school graduation credit through the completion of online courses. It requires each school district to create/adopt an online program for students grades 9-12 and advertise this program to the patrons in the district. Piute School District will continue to use Electronic High School for one more year, and is exploring other online programs such as BYU Independent Study that will have a better support system for students that choose to earn graduation credit online. Protect Your Family's Addresses

The Utah Child Protection Registry is a free program provided by the State of Utah that helps you stop adult-oriented solicitations from being targeted at you and your family. The program allows you to protect:
  • E-Mail Addresses
  • Mobile Phone Numbers
  • Instant Messenger IDs
  • Fax Numbers
Companies and marketers that send adult-oriented messages, such as those promoting pornography, alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, and gambling are required to screen their mailing lists with the State of Utah and remove registered addresses and numbers before they send their solicitations. Marketers that fail to remove registered addresses face felony charges as well as substantial civil and criminal fines.

School has started and is in full swing for the year. We have had a great start so far. Just a few things that are happening: the school bond has passed and will start remodleing and addition at the high school in the spring of 2010 finishing in the fall of 2011. Circleville Elementary has started their new addition of handicap bathrooms and a preschool room.
